- AutoWeb is a "template"
based web page creator.
- AutoWeb puts the created
web page to user's home directory, under the
public_html (or equivalent) directory. No
FTP or Telnet required! The user,
who we assume is novice with computers, does
not have to thrive to put the generated file
to his/her home.
- AutoWeb handles
the directory access rights on the
server. Users are not supposed to issue
cryptic "chmod" commands to grant
read access to the world.
- AutoWeb can handle
personal web pages in multiple-domain
environments. In universities, for example,
there are many domains, served by different
home/http servers. AutoWeb can handle users'
index.html files on different home
directories/servers (provided that all home
servers are UNIX hosts).
- AutoWeb permits the user
to upload a picture file;
which usually is a passport size photograph.
- AutoWeb can be used to edit
existing index.html files.
- AutoWeb is trivially easy
to use and provides a comprehensive and handy
"HTML tips" page for those who want
to use tags in his/her page (not necessary
though).
- It is fairly easy to add
new templates or modify the existing ones.
- The system is fully
written in PERL and therefore fully
reconfigurable by experienced PERL
programmers.
