This is an introductory course on the COBOL programming language.

The course will cover :


Course Material : The course does not have a specific text book. Any reasonable COBOL text book or language reference manual will be helpful to the students. Some course notes will be available on this Web page, but these will not be the complete course material; therefore students are strongly advised to get hold to a COBOL book.

There will be lab-work assignments and homeworks in which students will be asked to develop COBOL code. The personal computers in the department labs will be equipped with RM-COBOL compilers (Ryan McFarland COBOL) and all turned in assignments are expected to be running correctly when compiled with this compiler.


Grading : Bilkent University's grading scheme will be used. Course activities have the following merits :


Communication : Most of the notices, assignments, exam & quiz results will be posted on this Web page. Students are expected to check the contents of this page frequently.
