WASPII is a subscription based
announcement mail distribution software.
The main purpose of the program is
to assist system administrators to establish and maintain multiple mailing lists to
distribute announcements in large network communities. A very typical college installation
will handle hundreds of lists for each course, class, department, school, faculty, student
club etc. WASPII can handle different list management schemes and hence take the burden of
maintaining these lists off of the computer system administrators' shoulders.
The site administrator (usually the
sysadmin) creates a list, grants the department head or another list manager (say, course
instructor) administration rights and forgets the list.
WASPII lists are maintained with web
enabled appications and no UNIX experience is necessary to manage the lists. A modern web
browser is the only tool required to start new lists, modify existing lists, add/remove
subscribers and obliterate lists.
WASPII is a one-way mailing list
application. It is primarily intended to distribute announcement messages posted by
authorized managers; rather than establishing a discussion platform. In other words,
WASPII subscribers cannot post any announcements to WASPII lists. Subscribers only receive
announcement messages.
WASPII is the enhanced version of
ASPII; a subscription based mail announcement system; originally developed by Martin
Kretzmann (Email: martin@plebius.org ). You can download and install ASPII if you like.
WASPII is free.I shall appreciate if
you could drop me an e-mail if/when you install and start using WASPII. I would also very
much enjoy sharing any enhancements you make.
Enjoy.
