- WASPII is a subscription based
announcement mailing list server.
- WASPII distributes mail messages posted
by administrators to the subscribers of a list.
- List subscribers cannot
post messages to other subscribers. WASPII is a one way mailing list server.
- WASPII can maintain an unlimited
number of lists.
- List administration is 100% web
based. Any modern web browser can be used to maintain WASPII lists.
- Administrator privileges can be granted
either to persons or hosts. IP based administrator specification can be used to
grant administrator rights to hosts; and hence to whoever uses that host. UserID based
administrator specification can be used to grant admin rights to people; who can display
admin web pages provided that they can supply a valid UserID and password.
- Each list can have its own different
administrator authentication scheme and its own administrators. A master list
administrator scheme is available for the administration of the whole system.
- People can subscribe/unsubscribe to
available lists by filling out simple web forms.
- New subscribers will be notified about
their subscription request and asked to confirm this request. This
feature is useful against potential spammers who might subscribe other people, without
their consent.
- Web based subscription/unsubscription
can be disabled by administrators; so that lists are rendered compulsory
subscription lists. This feature is very useful in educational sites where instructors
maintain announcement lists for their courses.
- Administrators can add/remove
subscribers easily.
- Subscriber databases are searchable
and easy to manage over the web.
- The system is fully written in PERL
and therefore fully reconfigurable by experienced PERL programmers.
